The Partagas 15 vitola behind Bolivar's New Gold Medal has only been used once before, on the 2013 Ramon Allones Imperiales. At 48 ring gauge it's noticeably thicker than the original Gold Medal it revives, which measured just 42, though it keeps the same gold foil dress and La Casa del Habano Exclusivo band.

Habanos S.A. released the cigar in 2023, with some boxes made available to attendees of that year's Habanos Festival before it rolled out market by market, from Brazil and Asia Pacific through to Germany and Portugal. The original Gold Medal dates back to before 1960 and was discontinued in 1992, making this thicker revival a genuine return rather than a simple relaunch.
